Best vacuum I have ever owned! September 3, 2010 DKL I love this vacuum. It is the best that I have ever owned. Was very easy to put together and cleans up the floor perfectly. I LOVE the pet hair attachment. I clean up the couch and chairs in minutes and works way better then all the other pet hair collector gadgets I have bought over all the years. The self propel makes it much easier to use with thicker carpet. Only complaint I have it that the belt has fallen off twice now, but only takes me about 3 minutes to slip it back on, why I only rated 4 stars. However, for how great the vacuum works, I can slip back on the belt every few weeks! You will not regret this vacuum. Works wonderful and has a great price tag.
RWood August 31, 2010 Robert W. Wood (USA) As a long time buyer on Amazon.com I believe this is the first time I have written a review. I am motivated to write about the Hoover U6485-900 due to complete disappointment in the quality of the product. Received it today. Inoperable after 5 minutes. And already on the way back to Amazon. While we all have gotten accustomed to lower quality construction and materials over the years this vacuum must represent the bottom-of-the-barrel in my opinion. Tools fall out of their holders, on-off switch is flimsy at best, thin plastic construction and the belt broke within 5 minutes of use. I can't understand how Consumer Reports recommended this vacuum. The only explanation may be that compared to what else in avialable in the markterplace this vacuum is better? A sad commentary.
Better Than Expected August 28, 2010 Margaret (Oregon, OH USA) The first one of I ordered was missing a part plus when I turned it on it emitted a high-pitched whine. Within the very first minute, I smelled burning rubber, heard an odd popping sound. The self-propel switch stopped working and I could not get the roller bar to turn.
However, with Amazon's excellent return policy, I shipped the defective sweeper back and asked for a replacement. Exactly 24 hours later, UPS came to pick up the unit and later the very same day its replacement arrived! Talk about superb service!!
This self-propelled Hoover WindTunnel makes vacuuming effortless. Believe me, I know, with an abdominal cancer surgery and several hernia-repair surgeries plus a recently developed new hernia, I was unable to use my older Hoover Wind Tunnel. Too hard to push! Plus it was almost completely worn out.
This machine is quiter than expected, moves a lot of air, comes with excellent HEPA
filtration and a full set of on-board tools. The dog even likes this one better than the old one.
I only wished that the 25 ft long extendable hose came with the unit and did not have to be purchased separately.
Good vacuum for the price August 25, 2010 E. Colby The only difficulty I have had with it is that it clogs more easily than my previous vacuum and the vacuum bags seems to fill very quickly. Suctions is great. I feel the carpet is very clean after I vacuum. Easy to maneuver with or without the self-propelled mechanism on.
Great Vacuum Cleaner August 25, 2010 Bob M (Madison, WI, US) This vacuum sucks! And when one is referring to a vacuum cleaner, that's a compliment. The vacuum was easy to assemble - ten minutes and a couple of screws. Just be sure to read and follow directions. (It matters if the switch is in the "On" or "Off" position.) We tried it out the day it arrived. It arrived a week before the promised delivery date. So that was one day after all the carpets in the house had been vacuumed with a ten year old canister vacuum a powered brush/beater head. The canister vacuum had a new bag put in it just before the most recent house cleaning was undertaken, and the bag was not noticeably fuller when the house had been vacuumed. The Hoover WindTunnel then filled at least a bag per room. (Order plenty along with the vacuum, you'll use a lot at first and the price is right from Amazon.) It was difficult to believe that all that dirt and sand and stuff was in the carpet. When I read the instructions I thought the red and green lights were a cheesy trick. No way! They do a very good job of indicating when the carpet is no longer giving up debris. In some cases the light stayed red for ten to twenty slow passes over a particular stretch. But once it turned green, it was never red over a green area again. It must be accurately sensing something. The carpets look noticeably cleaner and the pile is appears denser and deeper. We also got the 20 foot stretch hose and have found that a valuable addition for vacuuming stairs, miniblinds, lampshades, etc. We cut open one bag to see what the vacuum had picked up and that investigation convinced us that we made the right choice in purchasing a bag-type vacuum. We cut the bag open in the garage and the air was so filled with dust we had to flee the garage to wait for it to settle. If we had a bag-less vacuum with the same contents we would have had to empty it outside on a windy day while standing up-wind. With the bags one just seals the hole where they attach to the vacuum with the sticky patch that comes with the bag and everything is sealed inside. You can literally throw the bag in the trash. I challenge anyone to dump their bag-less vacuum into a trash container if it contains the sort of stuff the WindTunnel extracted from our carpets. We didn't intend to purchase the pet hair attachment but have found it convenient and effective for cleaning hard to reach areas. It is probably worth the few bucks extra. We can't think of a critical thing to say about the WindTunnel, even the blue color grows on you. All that remains to be done is use the leaf blower to try to dust off the cars and other things in the garage after our bag cutting experiment.
